Business philosophy As I hope is clear from the rest of the site, I adopt a holistic approach to businesses. - I
strongly prefer to work with everyone in the business I believe that there is only one area which a successful business has to address in order to be truly successful (whether they define success as a market leader, a wealth generator par excellence, or whatever). And this has nothing to do with the nuts and bolts of running a business. Of course plenty of businesses need development in the 'nuts and bolts' department first. This is in part due to the admirable way that so many people launch into business without knowing all they really should know about how to run that business. But what differentiates the well managed business, delivering solid but uninspiring results, from the similarly well managed business that is really flying? In my experience, the truly successful business needs to be really good at relationships. Many companies get that business is about people. But training, incentiives and an 'open door' policy aren't enough. How well people in a business relate to each other - and to the business's customers, suppliers, stakeholders, networking contacts and the rest - is the essential driver of how well the business is doing. Emotional intelligence is the key to grasping and implementing these ideas. This is why I emphasise this in my coaching and offer a range of training courses under the banner 'Emotional intelligence at work'. |
